Westglow sits on a historic 11-acre estate overlooking Grandfather Mountain and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in 1917 as the summer home of renowned artist and writer Elliott Daingerfield, the estate centers around the Greek Revival Manor House, which still features many of his original works. After remaining in the Daingerfield family until 1978, the property was purchased by Glynda Valentine, who transformed it into a wellness retreat. In 2006, Bonnie and Jamie Schaefer acquired Westglow, launching major restorations and elevating it to a top-ranked global destination spa. In 2023, local members of Westglow purchased the estate and began a full renovation. The Manor House reopened in May 2024 with six guest rooms, a restaurant, and two bars—Elliott’s and the Piano Bar. The spa is scheduled for major renovation in Winter 2025.
